This year the Athens FFA had another fun and exciting year at the 96th annual Pennsylvania Farm show. Mason Tate, Derek Chapman and Michael Curtis received their Keystone Degrees. In order to receive the Keystone Degree, students must earn and productively invest $1,000 or work 300 hours on their FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects.
Mason is the son of Pam and Bryan Tate from Athens and did his SAE Project on Beef Finishing: Ag Production. Mason also received the Regional Star Award in the area of Agriculture Production for the Northern Region and competed for the state star award at the Farm Show.
Derek is the son of Earl and Renay Chapman from Ulster. He completed his SAE project in the area of On-Farm Employment, working at Lamb’s dairy farm in Ulster.
Michael is the son of Ken and Diana Curtis of Ulster. He completed his SAE project in the areas of On & Off Farm Employment. Michael worked at the Vanderpoel Farm in Ulster, and currently works at Precision Machining in Ulster, Pa.
Additionally, six freshmen FFA members won Official FFA Jackets by writing an essay on what the FFA Jacket meant to them. Nick Vosburg, Bethany Carpenter, Nathan Cahill, Austin Jelliff, Sam Burkett, and Troy Bilbrey all received their jackets that day.
